Cherry Pop is an American comedy musical film directed by Assaad Yacoub and written by Nick Landa, that was released on September 22, 2017 and distributed by Wolfe Releasing (United States) and Wolfe Videos (Australia).[1] The film is available on online platforms such as Amazon Instant Video and Netflix.[2]
Plot[3][edit]
Cherry Pop is the name of the small drag club in the film. It is called Cherry Pop because every night they "pop someone's cherry" as a new drag performer. The film is centered around the one night where they have the lead character, played by Lars Berge, be the 'cherry', or new performer of the night. Only thing is, the cherry didn't fit in with the rest of the drag queens. He was a straight man with a fiancée, who also wanted to sing live. The other drag queens didn't welcome him and actually kicked him out of the bar before he could perform. But that was just one of the problems backstage and onstage throughout the night. From problems as serious as suicide to problems as simple as barf this movie deals with it all in one night. The cherry eventually comes back and sings his rendition of 'Ave Maria' live due to a power outage, with his fiancée in the audience, and eventually gets accepted from the other queens due to his heartwarming performance.
There are many minor problems throughout the movie as well. There is a constant feud between the characters Blanquisha and White Chocolate which gets resolved during the mass number on stage. Also, the headlining performer, Lady Zaza, was suffering with grief from the loss of her muse and didn't know how to handle it. The Cherry's debut performance inspires her so much that she gains the strength to perform the mass number at the end of the film.
