Cheryl McCants is a bilingual communication professional (fluent in Spanish), entrepreneur, and brand strategist with more than 25 years of creative and strategic business development, public relations and integrated communication experience. In 1989, she founded Impact Consulting Enterprises, a strategic communication, marketing and public relations firm based in northern New Jersey with national and international reach.[1] McCants’ most recent professional accolades include PR News’ Top Women in Public Relations for 2017 and Leading Women Entrepreneurs’ Top 25 Leading Women Entrepreneurs for 2016.[2] She is also a 2012 National Urban Fellows Leader of Change for America,[3] and has been recognized by Time Warner and Essence magazine as a Power Leader in the African-American community.[1]
Early career
Cheryl McCants completed her undergraduate studies at Brown University and later received a Master of Science degree from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, and a Master of Arts degree in Project Management from George Washington University.[1] In addition to her career in communications as a media specialist, strategist and spokesperson, McCants has also worked in real estate development, retail, telecommunications and the nonprofit sector.[4]
McCants spent several years with telecommunications giant AT&T, where she served as a bilingual marketing and communication strategist. Later McCants joined Nike, Inc. in Beaverton, Oregon, where she served as global corporate responsibility manager and director of communications for the Jordan Brand. In these roles, McCants developed and implemented international media and brand management strategies, as well as campaigns designed to promote Nike’s corporate responsibility programs in the U.S. and abroad.[5]
As vice president of marketing for Ashley Stewart, a plus-size women's fashion brand aimed at African American women, she developed and implemented a strategic communication plan that re-opened more than 200 stores in five years, helping reverse years of decline. In 1989, she founded Impact Consulting Enterprises, a strategic communication, marketing and public relations firm with national and international reach.[6]

Impact Consulting Enterprises is a minority woman-owned strategic communication, marketing and public relations firm. Founded in 1989, Impact specializes in strategic marketing and business development; public and media relations and events support; corporate internal communications; social media management; and website, brochure, video and collateral creation. Impact is WBE, WOSB, SBE, MWBE, and 8A certified.[1]
Clients have included government agencies, nonprofits, corporations, small businesses and more, such as the Girl Scouts of the USA, the Ms. Foundation for Women, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Suven Life Sciences, and the U.S. Department of Transportation.[7]
Personal life
Charity work and advocacy
McCants has created and led several conscious capitalism initiatives, including the Great Football Sunday™ (GFS) social media campaign to raise awareness about the changing face of homelessness in the New York Metro region. This project aims to execute GFS campaigns in every city where the National Football League Super Bowl is held to end homelessness for working poor women with families in those cities.[8]
McCants is an executive member of the United Way of West Essex and Hudson County's Women's Leadership Council, and a board member for both the Rutgers Business School Entrepreneurs Pioneer Initiative and the Newark Regional Business Partnership. She is associated with her local chapter of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (Women Presidents' Educational Organization – New York), and advocates for social entrepreneurship, women-owned businesses, and civic participation.
