Chidi Ajufo (born 18 September 1982) is a British actor and former professional basketball player. He is known for roles including Curtiz in the Netflix Original Blood Red Sky, Bunny in The Gentlemen, Sergeant Logan Akua in the science fiction action film Doom Annihilation, and Cuddy in the CBS television series Training Day.
Early life[edit]
Chidi was born in Westminster London, UK to Nigerian parents Alexander Ajufo from Delta State and Lizzy Ajufo from Anambra State. Chidi spent his early adolescence years in Lagos State, Nigeria and attended boarding school there. As a teenager he relocated back to London where he started playing basketball for a local club team, the Westminster Warriors. Shortly thereafter his athletic skills earned him a basketball scholarship to play at a Division 1 university.[1] in the United States. He later transferred and graduated from Azusa Pacific University[2], then went off to play basketball professionally across Europe[3]
Career[edit]
Chidi transitioned into acting while living in Los Angeles. He acted in various sports commercials and also as a stunt man. His first feature film as a stunt man was Jack Ryan:Shadow Recruit.
Following his stunt works, Ajufo landed scripted roles and appeared in Angie Tribeca on TBS starring Rashida Jones, the TV drama-series Training Day on CBS starring the late Bill Paxton, and the mini-series The Widow starring Kate Beckinsale.
In 2017, Chidi played the role of Jim Brewer in the historical Russian sports drama titled Three Seconds (titled Going Vertical in Russia). The film grossed $60M, making it the highest-grossing modern Russian film of all time.[4]
In 2019, he landed the role of Sergeant Logan Akua in the video game to film adaptation, Doom: Annihilation. That same year, he landed the role of Bunny[5] in Guy Ritchie’s action-comedy The Gentlemen, acting alongside Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, and Hugh Grant.
Chidi also starred in the Netflix Original movie titled Blood Red Sky where he played the character Curtiz[6]. Netflix reported the film was watched by 50 million members over its first four weeks of release in July 2021, making it the most successful German original title to date.[7]
