She has been performing throughout the world both as a soloist and as a chamber music artist. She performs regularly with Los Angeles Philharmonic and holds teaching position at California State University, Dominguez Hills.

Life and Career[edit]

Chika was born in Takatsuki, Osaka Japan. Her father was an industrial designer for a leading Japanese electronic company, Panasonic Corporation (formerly known as the Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.) and contributed in the innovative designs of the CRT television, LCD TV, plasma television, and LED TVs. When Chika was 4, her father’s 5-year relocation to Frankfurt, Germany led the family to move to Bad Homburg. She attended Frankfurt International School on weekdays where she studied English and also went to Frankfurt Japanese School on Saturdays. She started taking classical piano lessons at age 5 and continued her training until end of high school.

The family was then relocated back to Japan for a short period of time and was relocated to San Diego, CA., USA. Chika started playing the saxophone in her high school marching band to immerse herself in the American band culture and also became a principal drum major. She was then accepted to University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in classical saxophone performance under Dr. Douglas Masek. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in saxophone performance and music education, she received her Masters of Arts in California State University, Fresno and completed her Doctor of Musical Arts in saxophone performance at University of Southern California's (USC) Thornton School of Music at age 26.

Chika appears in international venues throughout the world. She has been a featured performing artist in international festivals such as The Faenza International Saxophone Festival in Faenza, Italy, The International Clarinet and Saxophone Music Festival in Taiyuan, China, Astoria Music Festival in Astoria Oregon, USA, Granada International Guitar Festival in Granada, Spain to name a few.

Chika has been effectively working on promoting the classical saxophone. She has been arranging and transcribing pieces that are not originally written for the instrument to effectively showcase the instrument’s capability in the classical genre. She was the first and the last saxophone student of a legendary cellist and a pedagogue, Alice Shoenfeld to learn about the musical insights from a string player and received high acclaim saying, “she has never heard a saxophone the way you play.” She has also been finding different combination of instruments to play saxophone with to broaden the audience. In 2017, An Evening of Japanese and Armenian Music was produced to celebrate 25th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Armenia and performed music with the violin, piano and saxophone. In 2020, she had the opportunity to be part of the Piatigorsky Foundation to perform Brahms Piano Trio with the alto saxophone (in replacement of clarinet), cello and piano.

In October 2020, Inoue released an album "Unfettered" with her classical guitar partner, Scott Morris. The recordings feature Mozart and Schubert pieces arranged for the two instruments. The recording was produced by Niko Bolas and recorded by Al Schmitt and Chandler Harrod at Capitol Studios Hollywood's Studio A. It was released by Samek Music, Clarinet and Saxophone Classics and distributed by NAXOS. The pair have started working on their second album that includes classical Spanish music.[citation needed]
