Chimney Rocks Park

Chimney Rocks is a park in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania that features a prominent limestone formation with 121 perches. This wall of rock was the location from which Indians burned signal fires to warriors watching in the valley below. Indians who lived, hunted and traveled through the area include the Muncies, Nanticokes, Shawnees, Tuteloes, and Delawares.[1].
Development
The Borough of Hollidaysburg purchased Chimney Rocks and surrounding property in 1994. The property was developed to increase the ease of access as well as create a more enticing destination and thus created Chimney Rocks Park. The site has many improved trails to allow for handicap access to one of the overlooks and picnic areas. During the holiday season, the rocks are home to a 20' high lighted star[2]
In September of 2018, the Blair County Planning Commission approved an agreement with Penn State University to conduct a learning project at Chimney Rocks. Some sections of the trail are steep and have led to erosion which has left the trail uneven and some sections even cut off by channels. The objective of this study is to develop a site plan which would include recommended best management practices to minimize erosion and trail stabilization. This effort should allow the trails to be utilized in the spring and winter which have been traditionally too muddy[3].

Chimney Rocks has an elevation of 1,382' and is located at 40.4202°N, 78.3860°W. It has a rise of 212' with a saddle of 1,170'. Chimney Rocks is a part of Catfish Ridge and has isolation of approximately 2.27 miles[4].
