Chitrankan

Chitrankan is an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) system for Hindi and other Indian Languages. It is developed by Indian Statistical Institute ISI, Kolkata and the technology was transferred to C-DAC, Pune. It processes printed Hindi text either directly from scanner or from an image.

The conversion is not 100% accurate and needs manual edition later. The electronic matter can be edited using any word processor. It has a spell check facility. It works with Hindi and Marathi languages along with Embedded English Text. It saves recognized text in ISCII format or exporting as .RTF for editing using any word processor.
