Chizuru Ichinose, more commonly known by her rental persona "Chizuru Mizuhara ", is a fictional character originating from Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine "Rent-A-Girlfriend" (Kanojo, Okarishimasu / 彼女、お借りします)[4], written and illustrated by Reiji Miyajima. Chizuru is the female main character of the series and won the title "Girl of the Year " for 2021 in the 7th edition of the Anime Trending awards.[5]

Ichinose Sayuri / 一ノ瀬・さゆり (Chizuru's late grandma) [7][edit]
Before her grandmother came to an untimely demise Chizuru and her were extremely close, as she never got the chance to form a bond with either of her parents before they also passed away when she was still a toddler. Her grandma inspired her to pursue a career in acting when she stumbled upon a video tape containing clips of her grandma performing when she was younger. This impacts greatly on Chizuru because she seeks to become like her grandma as she is viewed as a type of mother figure in the eyes of Chizuru. With the support of her husband, Katsuhito, they intended to help seek her dreams but this was cut to a abrupt end, when Katsuhito was killed in car crash that was no fault of his own
Ichinose Katsuhito / 一ノ瀬・かつひと (Chizuru's late grandpa) [8][edit]
Katsuhito is Chizuru's late grandfather, the one who taught her to follow her dreams, no matter their impossibility. At first Chizuru did not seem to take kindly to the advice that Katsuhito gave her, but however after she saw the videos of her grandma's acting skills, she became more open to the advice her grandfather had given her. Proceeding Katsuhito's untimely death, Chizuru was devastated and it is an event that continues to impact her today as she continues to abide by her grandfather's teachings.
Kinoshita Kazuya / 木ノ下・かずや (Chizuru's main client / love interest) [9][edit]
The first time that Chizuru met Kazuya was on rental date that he booked with her. On first encounter, she would merely regard Kazuya as client, however this soon changed when Kazuya freaked out in front of everyone on their first rental date at the aquarium. When this happened Chizuru was not happy so he was pulled to the side by her and yelled at him insisting that he is only a client and there is no connection between them but a superficial one. Things took an interesting turn when Kazuya got a phone call telling him that his had collapsed and was in the hospital. It was later revealed that Chizuru's grandma was also in the hospital which forced them to lie that they were actually dating.
Despite their incessant claims of wanting to reveal the truth to their grandparents there always appears to be some comedically timed situation that prevents them from revealing the truth to their grandmas at that moment. Chizuru attempts to bring an end to the rental relationship multiple times but her plans always are foiled by them running into each other, being neighbours and going to the same school doesn't help either.
During the beach trip, however, her feelings towards Kazuya start to become apparent. On the trip she is once again pushed into the role of Kazuya's girlfriend mainly as a facade to keep his friends on the trip in the dark about their secret. However she is shocked when Kazuya says that they should break up but agrees it is the right thing for them to do. But later, Kazuya's friend Kibe approaches her and recounts a story about Kazuya when he was younger. The main message of this story is to inform Chizuru of Kazuya's true personality and perhaps give him a chance even though she might think he is an idiot. Kibe gives Chizuru ferry tickets so that Kazuya and Chizuru can be relieved of anxiety by taking a bit of break. However as Chizuru was extremely tired and overwhelmed she fell overboard the ferry nearly drowning in the process before being saved by Kazuya. Both are washed up on the shore where Kazuya lies unconscious Chizuru needing to perform CPR on him to revive him. After this, Chizuru makes a promise to continue being his rental girlfriend as long as he needs due to her being moved by the courageous act of Kazuya saving her life.
Nanami Mami /七海・まみ (Kazuya's Ex) [10][edit]
Mami is spiteful towards the relationship that Kazuya and Chizuru have because she views it as illegitimate and thus morally wrong. Chizuru is unaware of the disdain that Mami has towards her because of her act of being on a happy face around her claiming to be happy for Kazuya. However on one occasion her facade is chipped away at when she makes the passive-aggressive move of renting Chizuru to demand that she stops their phoney relationship as she is fed up with their lies.
Sarashina Ruka / 更科・るか(Kazuya's trial girlfriend) [11][edit]
At first Chizuru treated Ruka fairly as they had only just met but this however was changed when Ruka threatened to reveal that she was a rental girlfriend to everyone else. Unfortunately when Ruka encountered Kazuya this caused her to think she fell for him because her heartbeat went to 92 BPM even though this was likely due to her bradycardia heart condition.
Yaemori Mini / 八重森・みに (Chizuru & Kazuya's neighbour) [12][edit]
Chizuru was apparently apprehensive to Yaemori's appearance as she had learnt about the situation with their relationship. She even more irritated by her as she acts like Kazuya's cupid however Chizuru realises her true feelings towards Kazuya through Mini's knowledge of how Kazuya also feelings towards her. This makes Chizuru to begin to accept her feelings for him but she still is hesitant to accept that she does have feelings towards Kazuya. Mini was the one who eventually told Chizuru that Kazuya 'adored her as a woman' and urged her to like Kazuya after all of Kazuya's previous attempts at expressing his affections were brought to a halt or misconstrued.
Sakurasawa Sumi /桜沢・すみ (Chizuru's friend) [13][edit]
Sumi and Chizuru are friends even though they both work for the Rental Girlfriend service. Chizuru appears to care about Sumi and lends her tips on how to be a superior rental girlfriend. To assist Kazuya gain experience, Chizuru then urges him to go out on a trial date with Sumi.
