(this isnt complete, so please, let this become an article so others can help and even expand it, also I did on youtube how to add citations and I found none that helps adding citations on a draft)
the chloronium ion makes part of the Halonium ions, one example of molecule that cointain it is H2Cl+, (mostly known as chloranium and shown on the images) being that molecule is Inorganic, its found in space, its the protonated form of Hydrogen chloride.

there are stable Salts of it, mostly uses Carborane acid and chlorane (HCl), chloronium ions forms in solutions of dichloromethane of the H(CHB11Cl11) acid. H(CHB11Cl11) reacts with chloroalkanes, and the reaction produces dialkylchloronium salts, and theyre stable at room temperature dimethylchloronium ions decompose into CH3Cl and Sublimable CH3(CHB11Cl11), providing a synthetic route to a electrophylic Methylating agent
