Cho Mi-yeon (Hangul: 조미연, Hanja: 趙美延, born January 31, 1997) often referred to as Miyeon. She is the main vocalist of the South Korean girl group (G)I-DLE under Cube Entertainment.

Early Life[edit]

Cho Mi-yeon was born on January 31, 1997 in Incheon, South Korea.^[1]

She is the only child in the family. Cho showed strong interest in singing since she was a child. Her love for music was inspired by her father. Cho's parents soon recognized her passion and sent her to music schools to learn various skills, such as violin, guitar and piano.^[1]

With the encouragement of friends and family, Cho auditioned for YG Entertainment during middle school. She was trained at YG Entertainment for 5 years.^[1]

Cho continued to pursue music as she signed up for a music academy to strengthen her vocal skills, as well as learning to compose and produce music.^[2]

Career[edit]

2016-2018: Pre-debut activities[edit]

In February 2016, Cho left YG Entertainment.^[1]

She then became a freelance singer and appeared as an associate singer with Seulong in Urban Zakapa Canada Tour in September 2016.^[3]^[4]^[5]^[6]

Early 2017, Cho became a trainee at Cube Entertainment.^[1]

In July 2017, Cho was officially revealed for the first time on the internet with her "You"(Seulong) cover.^[7]

From February to March 2018, Cho covered 4 K-pop songs along with Minnie, another Cube Entertainment trainee at the time. The videos were uploaded on Dingo Music.^[8]^[9]^[10]^[11]

2018-present: (G)I-DLE and solo activities[edit]

Cho's teaser photo was released on April 8 along with Yuqi's, another member.^[12]

Cho officially debuted with (G)I-DLE on May 2, 2018 with their mini-album I AM and the title song "Latata".^[13]

On May 25, Cho and her bandmate, Minnie covered the song "Love Scenario" by iKON on MBC Radio FM4U 91.9MHz. The video was uploaded on May 28 and soon received great response from the public. Namely, the cover video gets 1.9 million views. They became a hot issue from the last week of May to the first week of June and has brought the name (G)I-DLE to more recognition.^[14]

On August 14, (G)I-DLE made a comeback with "Hann (Alone)" as their first digital single.^[15]

On October 26, it was reportedly confirmed that Cho would perform at the League of Legends World Finals Opening Ceremony 2018, along with Soyeon, Madision Beer and Jaira Burns.^[16]

On November 3, K/DA - POP/STARS featuring Cho was released on the official League of Legends YouTube channel.^[17]
