Choise
Choise was a band from Leicestershire, UK. They were active from 1967 to 1973.
Band history
The first lineup of Choise was singer Don Collins, guitarist Trevor Oakes, bassist Al James, and drummer Richard Hough. Their earliest known performance was at Quadrant Stables in Billesdon on 27 June 1967.[1] Their gig at The Woolpack in Wolverhampton also had The N'Betweens, known later as Slade.
In 1970, they released their first and only single, A Side: Cecilia, B Side: She's A Man.[2] The record was produced by Mike Batt. Choise were managed by David Levens. A fan club was set up in 1970, which was managed by James' sister, Jayne Betts.
Lead singer Don Collins left Choise in February 1972, playing his last gig in Uppingham on 18 February. Dave Bartram was brought in to replace him and his first performance with Choise is believed to have been at the Fosseway pub in Leicestershire the next day.[1] Drummer Richard Hough left in October 1972, and was replaced by Romeo Challenger.
In 1973, Choise and a cover band called The Golden Hammers, with the members Buddy Gask (vocals), Russ Field (guitar), Rod Deas (bass) and Malcolm Allured (drums) had a jamming session at the Fosseway pub.[3] The two bands decided to come together to be one eight-member band, a Rock and roll revival group by the name of Showaddywaddy.[4][5] Choise's last gig, at the Penny farthing pub, was billed "live music from Choise - 50% of Showaddywaddy".[1]
Al James died in 2018.[6]
