Chori is a rural community and a people located in the district of Nok, Jaba Local Government Area in southern Kaduna State region of Middle Belt, Nigeria. Its postal code is 801110[2] and has a popular river called River Chori, which is also called Baisuga, from which, in 1994, a water supply project aimed at providing water supplies for communities in southern Kaduna State was based.[3][4][not in citation given] These people are also present in Jema'a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.[5]

Language Overview

The people of Chori speak Cori or Kyoli, a Niger-Congo language with an estimated 7,000 to 8,000 speakers, primarily within the Kwoli ethnic group. It is the predominant language in community domains. These people are multilingual, speaking neighboring languages like Hyam, Hausa, and English. Without language development initiatives, there may be a shift towards greater use of Hausa or English.
