Chris Coco

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Chris Coco (aka Christopher Mellor) is a British DJ. He has been playing records and making music since acid house first gripped the UK in the late 1980s.

He was one of the first house music resident DJs, playing practically every weekend at The Coco Club at The Zap in Brighton from 1988-1994.[1] During his time there he produced an album for Warp Records, Coco Steel & Lovebomb - It, featuring the club record Feel It.[2]

During the 1990s he worked as editor of DJ Magazine as well as continuing to DJ and make music. After a revelatory experience at Cafe Del Mar in Ibiza he adjusted his DJing more towards chillout, sunset and downtempo music. He made three more albums with Coco Steel & Lovebomb that included Yachts (A Man Called Adam Mix) and The Sunset (A Reminiscent Drive Mix). He also made two artist albums for Distinctive Records including Next Wave, which featured author Iain Banks and guitarist Peter Green.[3]

From 2002 - 2006, he and Rob Da Bank were the presenters of the Blue Room on BBC Radio 1. The show had a dedicated following, and was one of the few showcases for a unique blend of quirky chillout tunes.[4]

In 2006 he supported Robbie Williams on his world tour, also featuring as the DJ element in his band. He went on to form the band City Reverb for which he provided vocals, keyboards and guitar. He also collaborated with Steve Miller aka Afterlife as The Normalites and produced Balearic duo Nick & Samantha.[5]

He currently makes Melodica, a weekly radio show, and continues to make music, runs his own labels Chris Coco Music and Disappear. He is also one of the summer resident DJ at Hostal La Torre in Ibiza.[6]
