Chris Darril (born April 13, 1989), nickname of Mario Christopher Alberto Valenti, is an Italian writer, director, artist and game designer, best known for his work on Remothered: Tormented Fathers, Remothered: Broken Porcelain, Forgotten Memories: Alternate Realities and NightCry. He's Co-Founder & Director at Remothered SRL and Darril Arts SRL.

Career[edit]

His indie series Remothered, a clear homage to The Silence of the Lambs (film), was listed among GameSpot's "scariest games of all time".[1] With Remothered: Tormented Fathers, Darril gained the "Best Writing in a Drama" nomination at the NAVGTR 2019 concurring with God of War (2018 video game) and Spider-Man (2018 video game)[2] and, despite being "just" a video game, was also prized as the Best Animated Feature Film at Oniros Film Awards 2019.[3] At Gamescom 2019 announced Remothered: Broken Porcelain, a new segment to the acclaimed saga universe, released on October 13 for all the game platforms.

On July 22, 2018, three days prior to Remothered: Tormented Fathers' console release, Keiichiro Toyama, creator of the Silent Hill (video game) series and Forbidden Siren, expressed his admiration for Remothered and hoped to collaborate with Chris Darril.[4][5][6]

In 2019 he has been nominated academy member at the BAFTA Awards and juror.[7] Starting as concept artist, game designer and art director, was co-director of CVA nominee Forgotten Memories: Alternate Realities and nominated member and teacher of the scientific academy board committee for IUDAV: Institute of University Digital Animation and Videogame, his career includes experiences of work with Takashi Shimizu (Ju-On/The Grudge), Masahiro Ito (Silent Hill), Nobuko Toda (Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Halo 5: Guardians), Kiyoshi Arai (Final Fantasy), Digital Happiness (DreadOut), Microids (Syberia, Still Life) and Dreampainters LTD (Anna) but was also and mainly involved into cinema productions with Rai Cinema and in different events in Cinecittà (Rome), including one as special guest together with Gabriele Mainetti, writer and director of They Call Me Jeeg and Freaks Out.

Nominated New Media Art Director for the Pop Festival in Catania, Etna Comics (focusing on New Media in general: from TV series to films and video games) with honor guests of the caliber of Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory), Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner), Keiichiro Toyama (Silent Hill), Hidetaka Suehiro (Deadly Premonition), Tony Bancroft (Beauty and the Beast), Charles Cecil (Broken Sword), Jihuyin Park and Shiyoon Kim (Frozen) and many others.[8]

On January 8, 2021 announced the graphic novel based on 'Remothered franchise, released on January 29 on Steam, GOG.com and named Remothered: A Lamb to the Slaughter - Book 1.[9][10]

On January 14, 2021 he was nominated member of scientific committee of SIG-IGDA, International Game Developers Association[11]

On social and IMDb it has been revealed that he is now working on an new film project named My Horrible Guests together with John Ottman, Academy Awards winner Best Achievement in Editing for Bohemian Rhapsody.[12]

In March 2021, his short movie Before Saying Goodbye, also included as special unlockable easter egg in Remothered: Broken Porcelain, was awarded for Best Director in a Short Movie and also nominated for Best Director at Oniros Film Awards in New York.[13]
