Chris Iwegbu Ifechukwude Ijeli is a Nigerian civil engineer and business executive. He is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dorman Long Engineering Limited, a West African engineering and fabrication company involved in oilfield equipment, structural steel, and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects.[1][2]

Early life and education

Ijeli studied civil engineering at the University of Benin, graduating with a Bachelor of Engineering in 1984. He later earned a Master of Engineering in Water, Wastewater, and Environmental Health Engineering from the same university in 1989.[3]

Career

Dorman Long Engineering

In October 2023, Ijeli was appointed as the Managing Director of Dorman Long Engineering Limited, succeeding previous leadership and assuming responsibility for the company’s operations in Nigeria and across Sub-Saharan Africa.[1][2][4][5] He brings more than 38 years of experience in civil engineering and project management, having overseen EPC projects valued at over US$1.5 billion.[4] Under his leadership, the company has emphasized local content development and infrastructure expansion in Nigeria’s energy and construction sectors.

Previous roles

Ijeli began his career at Dorman Long in 1988 as a sales engineer. He later held senior leadership roles at companies including Makon Engineering, Nivafer Steel Construction, and Energy Works Technology, where he managed large-scale projects and commercial operations.

Achievements

In 2024, he led Dorman Long Engineering during its 75th anniversary, which unveiled a refreshed corporate identity and highlighted the company’s contributions to infrastructure such as the Niger Bridge and partnerships with ExxonMobil, NLNG, and Shell.[6] In January 2025, Dorman Long signed a partnership with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) to support professional training and capacity building for young engineers.[7] In March 2025, Ijeli signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the NSE, reinforcing collaboration between the company and Nigeria’s professional body for engineers.[8]
