Chris The Ghost
Christopher Darshan Sparks (born March 31st, 1993), known professionally as Chris The Ghost[1] is an American rapper, singer and songwriter. He rose to prominence as the co-founder and leader of the alternative hip hop collective SOUTHEAST SIDE[2], and has performed on and produced songs for nearly every SOUTHEAST SIDE release.
Born in Matewan,West Virginia, Sparks spent most of his childhood in Niota,Tennessee. Struggling with delinquency, He began writing music at the age of 16 and started a music career his senior year in highschool as a guitarist for a heavy-metal band[3] in 2011, where he soon became a popular figure upon his peers. Unfortunately a year later the band faced financial issues while Sparks and another member are charged with nine misdemeanors for vandalizing mailboxes, eventually causing Sparks to leave the band as well as his home at the age of 17 due to the negative impact his lifestyle was having on his family.
Sparks resurfaces in the world of music early in the year 2017 under the alias Chris The Ghost where he soon became a popular figure in the SoundCloud rap/trap scene that takes elements of lo-fi music and harsh 808s.
Early Life[edit]
Christopher Darshan Sparks was born on March 31st, 1993, in Matewan, West Virginia to American parents, Ned Nelms and Charlotte Sparks. He has one half sibling, shared paternally. Sparks was mainly raised by his grandparents Charles and Donna Sparks due to his mother's financial situation.
Sparks' interest in music initially started after his art teacher kicked him out of the class for assaulting another student with bodily fluids and forced him into a music theory class being his only other option. He attended Mcminn County High School[4] from which he was later suspended after a series of burglary altercations. Sparks listened to nu-metal, hard rock and rap during his childhood, which led to him to learn multiple instruments including drums and guitar.
In his youth, He described himself as a "misfit", citing how quiet he was despite being popular and regularly involved in physical confrontations.Sparks was also the athletic type but said that he was insecure and depressed during his time in high school.
Career[edit]
Sparks' career as Chris The Ghost began in early 2017 after the release of his song "Savage". After gaining some attention, Sparks met up with old friend Zachary Steven Sisco, another artist known as Sisco. During their time together, Sparks and Sisco began freestyling and decided to tackle the rap game together.
That same year, following the release of their track "Mill", Sparks and Sisco met up with artists EHsu(Adrian Saunders) and Brendope(half brother of Sparks) after buying a Blue Snowball microphone and began recording music eventually creating the SOUTHEAST SIDE collective.
They released their first official self titled (EP) "SOUTHEAST SIDE"[5] , on April 26, 2018. The album features other artist such as lil C4,StonerBoy Toke, and Tommy Bottles. With its tracks "Donny Jepp" and "on and on" reaching over 1k views on YouTube within days of release causing major-label scouts to begin offering contracts and eventually signing them Amuse Distribution for lower royalty rate, full creative control and a smaller upfront payment.
On September 31st, 2018 they release their second official album "PALE HORSE"[6] including the songs—"Float",and "Laces Out"—that debuted in 2018's Amuse Hot 100 at number 94 and 95, respectively. They announced their first tour following that month having 23 tour dates overall and generated much media coverage, however weeks before the tour, Sparks and half sibling Brendope get caught in a drunk fight over the opening track granting them both jail time thus canceling the tour.
On January 14th, 2019 Sparks releases the single "Iniquit" helping him gain more popularity leading him to featuring artists like Tyler the Creator , Trippie Redd , and lil Wayne on the tracks -"deja vu","Batmobile", and "Boi".-
On February 27th, 2019 Sparks releases a diss track about rapper HKB HUGHES titled "black sheep"[7]. The track instantly reaches hundreds of views in hours of release sparking the mystery of the beef between the rappers. Although it is still unclear why the diss track was made it was speculated as a gimmick until Hughes returned with a diss that was eventually removed due to public discrepancies against Hughes. Sparks' diss track still stands on YouTube today.
On March 12th, 2019 Sparks and Sisco release the track "BIG WILLIE"[8] which revenued hundreds of views on most music platforms in only days.
