Christ the Bridegroom Monastery, is a Byzantine Catholic sui iuris Eparchial right monastery in Geauga County, Ohio in the township of Troy, Ohio. The community moved to a former house of the Social Mission Sisters on April 3, 2009,[1] in response to Pope Saint John Paul the Great's call for the revitalization of eastern monasticism in the United States in his apostolic letter Orientale Lumen.[2]
On March 29, 2010, Bishop John Kudrick received the community into the Byzantine Catholic Eparchy of Parma, tonsuring Mother Theodora as the monastery's first stavrophore nun on November 20, 2010.[3] On August 2nd, 2015, Bishop John established the monastery as a Public Association of the Faithful, and on September 27, 2019, Bishop Milan Lach completed the canonical process of the founding of the monastery, establishing it as a sui iuris monastery of eparchial right, approving their typikon. On September 29, 2019, Mother Theodora was elected hegumena (abbess), and on September 30, Bishop Milan publicly announced the canonical establishment and performed the liturgical institution of the hegumena.[4]
