Christian Dugardeyn known as the artist Duga, born in 1963 in Brussels in Belgium, is a painter, sculptor and draughtsman.[1]
Biography[edit]
Already as a child, he was attracted to the visual art. Later, he enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine and the "Académie royale des beaux-arts de Bruxelles" and becomes radiologist[2] and artist[3]. He expresses himself mainly through drawing, painting and sculpture[4]. He uses the "continuous line" to express his basic emotions while being unaware of the situation[5]. He explains that the main goals of his artistic approach are spontaneity and instinct[6], while he experiments with many other avenues over time. He says he is constantly looking for anything that can help him understand the human being a little better.[7][8].
For him, the exhibitions of Dubuffet and Chaissac were both a shock and a major revelation. They transmitted to him one of the foundations of his artistic approach: spontaneity and instinct. Through numerous experiments both in the type of support and in the materials used, he investigates Man, destructures him, deforms him until he reaches a limit between figuration and abstraction (figurabstraction)[9][10]. According to him, it is by distorting things that one comes closest to the truth[11][12]. As author, he revisits a book created and produced by De Visu Digital Document Design: "Atlas d'anatomie humaine revisité par DUGA Volume 1"[13]
