Career
Youth
Rust started his career representing the {t} at various youth tournaments. Rust then moved to Pretoria, where he joined the {t}. He played for the {t} side in the 2011 Under-19 Provincial Championship competition and for the {t} side in the 2012 Under-21 Provincial Championship competition.
Rust failed to break into their senior squad, however, and joined the {t} in 2013. While he was named in their squad for the 2013 Vodacom Cup, he never made an appearance for the Bloemfontein-based side. In the latter half of the year, he made a few appearances for both the {t} and {t} sides in the 2013 Under-21 Provincial Championship competition.
Senior career
Rust returned to the Western Cape in 2014, where he was included in the {t} side for the 2014 Vodacom Cup.[3] He made his senior debut against near-neighbours {t} in the opening match of the season,[4] Rust finished as the top scorer for the Cavaliers during the competition, scoring 41 points,[5] including a 21-point haul in their match against the {t} in Piketberg.[6][7]
