Christian Schoch (born 1983) is a German local politician of the Free Voters party. He was elected mayor of Kempten in a runoff election on 22 March 2026, with his term set to begin on 1 May 2026.

Early life and education

Schoch lives in Kempten, is married, and has two children. He earned a bachelor's degree in International Management at the FOM – University of Applied Sciences for Economics and Management (2004–2008) and a master's degree in Human Resources at the same university (2011–2013).

Professional career

Schoch began his professional career in October 2007 in human resources in administrative roles at a German industrial company (Oct 2007–Aug 2010). From September 2010 to March 2013, he worked in an international technology company focusing on HR operations, coaching, and personnel management. Between April 2013 and July 2015, Schoch worked at a global technology corporation with a focus on organizational consulting, international personnel development, performance management, and HR management. From August 2015 to September 2018, he held HR roles in an engineering firm and a medium-sized construction company.

From October 2018 to September 2021, he led the personnel department of the city of Kempten. Between October 2021 and November 2022, he continued in human resources in a biotechnology/pharmaceutical company. Since December 2022, he has been working in a major industrial company, specializing in HR operations, coaching, personnel management, organizational consulting, and international personnel development.

Political career

Schoch ran in the 2026 mayoral election in Kempten for the Free Voters. In the first round on 8 March 2026, he received 31.0% of the votes and advanced to the runoff against the incumbent mayor, Thomas Kiechle. In the runoff on 22 March 2026, Schoch won with 55.0% of the votes and was elected mayor of Kempten.

Assumption of office

According to the City of Kempten, Schoch’s inauguration and official assumption of office are scheduled for 1 May 2026; until then, Thomas Kiechle remains in office.
