Christof Industries is a global partner for developing, installing, and servicing industrial plants. The organisation is a full-service provider, taking care of every stage along the lifecycle of a plant through a 360° portfolio of products and services. With over 4,000 employees and over 4,500 investment projects worldwide, the company focuses on innovation by combining individual specialist companies' expertise with flexible organisational structures. Christof Industries is a family business that takes responsibility for the environment following the principles of the UN Global Compact.

History[edit]

Christof Industries has over 170 years of experience, as the legacy of an entrepreneurial family goes back to many individual stories of companies, including the company Oschatz Energy and Environment GmbH, which was founded in 1849[1]. The Christof family business was born in Graz in 1966, which started as a welding and maintenance specialist. Innovation has been a key part of the organisation since 1992, when a Research and Development department was setup and it started investing in environmental technology. Over the years several organisations were founded by the family, including international subsidiaries such as Christof Romania. The small family business grew tremendously between 2015 and 2017 with three big mergers including FMT[2][3], Doubrava[4] and Oschatz[5]. In 2017, the Clean City Factory was established, including a platform with numerous clean technologies. After rebranding to Christof Industries in 2019 the organisation continued to expand, with particular growth in the Romanian market. Today, Christof Industries is present in more than 15 countries.

Operations[edit]

Christof Industries offers plant solutions to customers, from turnkey projects, complex special plants, single pieces of machinery, to the full spectrum of industrial service. The company’s 360° portfolio covers the entire plant lifecycle and is the USP for Christof Industries as an industrial partner. Christof Industries states that its goal is to help customers achieve efficient, environmentally friendly, and sustainable plant lifecycles.

Sustainability[edit]

Christof Industries' sustainability strategy[6] was developed in 2019, which was outlined in its first ESG report. Since then, sustainability has been an integral part of the business, with sustainability performance summarised annually in an ESG report. In addition to the external assurance of the most recent ESG report, Christof Industries received its first Bronze EcoVadis rating in 2021[7].

Christof Industries’ sustainability strategy focuses on three main principles:

  • To think & act circular: Christof Industries concentrates on finding new ways to use resources and prioritise renewable inputs, maximise value and recover waste. The combination of various state-of-the-art technologies interlinked using the next generation of Industry 4.0 paves the way for treating all waste streams efficiently, emission-free and sustainable, powered by a truly circular economy mindset.
  • Operate green & clean: Christof Industries strives to keep their operations green and clean throughout the entire value chain by minimising emissions, waste, and pollution and maximising efficiency. The focus on green and clean practices and innovative products not only ensures that their own business is sustainable but also enables their clients and partners to improve their environmental performance.
  • Create sustainable value & growth: Christof Industries' final principle is to create sustainable value and growth by focusing on economic, environmental and social factors. They also focus on creating social value by empowering people and supporting the community.

Within these three principles, Christof Industries identified four main areas to create a positive impact: conducting clean and safe operations, developing sustainable innovations, creating sustainable partnerships, empowering people and supporting the community. The company is committed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, supports the UN Global Compact, and is part of UN Women.
