Christopher Roy Garland (also known as Chris Garland[1]) is a businessman and executive based in Gaborone, Botswana. He specialises in many areas, including financial planning and investment consulting. Garland has also consulted for various projects all over Africa, including in Botswana, South Africa, Zambia, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and Kenya.[2]

Early life[edit]

Garland was born in Plymouth, England, United Kingdom.[3] He completed his schooling in Plymouth in 1970 and later relocated to South Africa.[4]

Career[edit]

Chris Garland is a Certified Financial Planner, having obtained an Honours degree from the University of Free State in South Africa in 1985. That same year, he joined the Financial Planning Institute of South Africa.

Since 1991, he has been the managing director of Fidelity Indemnity (Pty) Limited.[5] The company provides financial planning services for both individuals and corporations.[6]

Garland has also served as Chairman of the Board of Westwood International School. He is also a non-executive Director of the boards of the Botswana International Financial Services Centre (IFSC), Botswana Export and Development Investment Authority (BEDIA).[7]

Philanthropy[edit]

As a philanthropist, Garland supports various charities in southern Africa, such as SA Guide-Dogs and Equinox Trust. [8]

Personal life[edit]

Garland has been married to his wife for more than 40 years and also has two children.

Since 1997, Garland has held an FAA Qualified Commercial Multi-Engine Pilot license and Instrument rating. As an experienced aircraft pilot, he is a member of AOPA (the United States Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association).[9]
