Christopher St. Lawrence was the Ramapo NY Supervisor from 2000 to 2017[1]. During his 16-year tenure, St. Lawrence oversaw many significant developments in Ramapo, such as the construction of Torne Valley Recreation Center & Fields and the Rockland Boulder's stadium. St. Lawrence was replaced by an interim Supervisor on June 20, 2017 after he was found guilty of 20 corruption-related charges.
Stadium Financing Scandal
In 2010, the public held a referendum regarding building a stadium in Ramapo; the result was an overwhelming rejection[2]. However, the town went ahead and approved the construction, with St. Lawrence guaranteeing $25 million in bonds despite a promise not to use public funding[3].
Following an FBI raid in May 2013, Preet Bharara, the United States attorney for the Southern District of New York, charged St. Lawrence and Aaron Troodler with numerous counts of corruption and fraud.[4] Four years after the initial charges, St. Lawrence was found guilty of 11 counts of wire fraud, 8 counts of securities fraud, and one count of conspiracy (The fraud counts carry prison terms of 20 years, while conspiracy carries a five-year term).[5][6][7]
