Church of St. George (St. George the Victorious, St. Gergievsky church, Gergievsky temple) is a Russian Orthodox Church in Rostov-on-don, Rostov and Novocherkassk eparchy and the Western deanery[1].

History[edit]

The Church of St. George was founded in 1993. The one-floor church was built in 1994 in the residential area of the Soviet district of Rostov-on-Don.

The first  worship service was held in 1994 in memory of St. George the Victorious. Since 1994, the parish abbot was Father (later Archpriest) Vladimir Ter-Arakelyants. The Church was reconstructed and enlarged in 1997. In 1998, the Church was visited by Archbishop Panteleimon, administrator of the Rostov eparchy[2].

In 2003, the old temple received an extension. In 2007, its decoration continued — the altar was painted and the vaults filled with canonical images in the old Russian style. The walls and vaults of the temple were decorated with stucco and the property was fenced. A second floor was added, holding the reception area, the Abbot's office, an auditorium for Sabbath-school (40 seats), a library with a reading room, refectory and utility rooms. The temple was moved from the altar and the Central part  to the second floor. A break room and the altar apse were created at the small side of the temple. On the first floor new rooms were built for the Church shop, accounting and rest rooms[3].

The abbot of the Church of St. George — (Archpriest) Vladimir Ter-Arakelyants[4].
