Church of the Great Martyr George the Victorious

One of the oldest churches is located in the Tolebi district, in the center of the village of Koksayek. It was built according to the project of the Moscow architect Wilhelm Solomonovich Heintzelman. It was built for the residents of the Russian villages of the Syrdarya region in 1880-1890 . The church worked until 1937 .

In 1991, by the decision of the Government of Kazakhstan, the church was returned to the status of the Russian Orthodox. By the efforts of entrepreneurs from Shymkent, the facade, dome and bell were restored. In 2001, the church was named in honor of the Great Martyr George the Victorious.

In 2002, the church was renovated. "In front of the entrance to the temple, built of light pink brick, you can see the bell tower at the top with a bell suspended from the arch. The temple is decorated with numerous icons of St. George, in whose honor it was consecrated."
