Cihuatlan or Zihuatlan was a tributary state or province of The Aztec Empire. it was located in the southern coast of Guerrero in what is currently the Costa Grande region. The province extended from the coastline from Ixtapa to Acapulco.
Etymology[edit]
According to Nahuatl dialect it means place of women, in Nahuatl universe it refers to home of the goddesses. Years after the Spanish conquest the name was changed from Cihuatlan to Zihuatlan, many years after that the region was just referred to as Costa Grande.

Despite the similarity of the name with other towns in current mexico, maps of the old The Aztec Empire correlates to this region to Costa Grande of Guerrero. in aztec empire maps , Cihuatlan is next to Yopitzinco which is now the region of Costa Chica in current Guerrero.
