Cilfaesty Hill is the highest peak of a large area of moorland that divides the ancient counties of Montgomeryshire and Radnorshire. The area around Cilfaesty is owned by the Crown Estate, and it forms the Cwmgwyn and Medwalleth common.[1] At a height of 528m (1732ft), it is the 5231st highest peak in the United Kingdom and the 437th highest in Wales.[2] The peak of Bryn Coch is just half a mile to the north; the summit has a small mound that is topped with wood and refuse, and the source of the River Teme is on its slopes.[2]
