The Cingnian Night Market(Chinese: 鳳山青年夜市; Tongyong Pinyin: cingnián yèshì) is a night market located at the intersection of Jhonglun 1st Road and Kaisyuan Road in Fongshan District, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. It has moved six times and moved to its current location in November 2021. The last location before moving here was the Kaohsiung Kaisyuan Night Market in Cianjhen District.
It covers an area of approximately 9917 square meters and is open every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 17:00 to 24:00(UTC+8).
History
- 1998: Originally called ‘Fongshan Wunheng Night Market’, it started from Fongyi Chishan Wunheng Temple and set up stalls along Wunheng Road on both sides, crossing Jianguo Road in Fongshan and ending at the back exit of Fongshan Railway Station. At that time, it was the longest night market in Taiwan.
- 2008: Due to traffic problems, Wunheng Night Market has been relocated several times and finally moved to the side of Cingnian Road underpass. Since then, it has been renamed ‘Cingnian Night Market’ and is also known as ‘Fongshan Cingnian Night Market’. Due to lease issues, Cingnian Night Market moved from Cingnian Road underpass in Fongshan District to the side of Fongshan Senior Commercial and Industrial Vocational School, and then moved to the area of Bo-ai Road and Rueising Road.
- On 18 March 2018, due to land legality issues, Fongshan Cingnian Night Market had its last day of business and was subsequently demolished.[1]
- On 6 April 2018, in order to comply with the government’s promotion of qualified night markets, it moved to Kaisyuan Fourth Road in Cianjhen District of Kaohsiung City to continue its business and merged with Kaisyuan International Tourist Night Market to become ‘Kaisyuan Cingnian Tourist Night Market’.
- On 18 November 2019, some stall operators who originally operated illegally on Yide Road next to Labor Park in Cianjhen District on Mondays moved to the side of Kaisyuan Cingnian Night Market in accordance with the arrangement of Kaohsiung City Government and continued to operate on Mondays as usual. Managed by the Kaisyuan Cingnian Night Market Management Committee.
- On 6 November 2021, due to the decision of the management committee to transform Kaisyuan Cingnian Night Market into a night market specializing in tourists, Cingnian Night Market moved back to Fongshan again. The new location is on Jhonglun First Road.
