Circle is an American technology company that provides a platform for creators and businesses to build a home for their community, events, and courses, under their own brand.[1][2][3] Founded in 2019 and headquartered in New York City.[4]

History

Circle was founded in 2019 as an alternative to mainstream social media networks for fostering member engagement. Circle was co-founded by Sid Yadav (former VP of Product at Teachable), Rudy Santino, and Andrew Guttormsen (former VP of Growth and Marketing at Teachable).[5][6] The concept emerged from Yadav's experience at the edtech company Teachable, where he identified challenges creators faced in building and engaging their audiences on existing platforms.[7]

The company launched publicly in August 2020 after eight months in beta testing.[8] Its initial focus was on providing community-building tools for creators, with early testers including Pat Flynn of Smart Passive Income and Anne-Laure Le Cunff of Ness Labs.[9]

Funding

In August 2020, Circle raised a $1.5 million pre-seed funding round led by Notation Capital. The round included participation from Ankur Nagpal (founder of Teachable), Dave Ambrose and Matthew Ziskie.[4]

In February 2021, the company raised a $4 million seed round, again led by Notation capital, with participation from many top technology entrepreneurs.[2][10]

In December 2021, Circle raised a $25 million funding round led by Tiger Global Management, valuing the company at $200 million.[11][12][13][14] As of 2026, the company is profitable with over $50 million in ARR.
