Over the course of six months, beginning in January 2020, the inaugural class of Civics Unplugged Fellows learned the fundamentals of systems thinking, personal development, democratic theory, and community building. Each Fellow also created a 10-year pledge outlining their personal contributions to building the future of American democracy throughout the 2020s.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; refs with no name must have content A group of Fellows contributed to the drafting of the Civics 2030 Declaration, which outlined the Fellows' vision for American democracy by 2030 and serves as the founding document for Civics Unplugged's Civics 2030 Campaign.[4]

The Fellowship culminated in Civics 2030 Launch Week, which started on June 27, 2020, with Commence 2030, a virtual celebration of youth civic leadership in the U.S. and the launch of the Civics 2030 Campaign.[5] Commence 2030 speakers included Cory Booker, Andrew Yang, Dwayne Johnson, Steve Ballmer, Audrey Tang, Katie Fahey, and others.[6][7]

Civics 2030 Launch Week ended on July 4, 2020, when the Civics Unplugged Founding Fellowship class signed the Civics 2030 Declaration, which they drafted during the Fellowship, running from January to July 4.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; refs with no name must have content As the founding document of the Civics 2030 Campaign, the Declaration's signing marked the official launch of the campaign.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; refs with no name must have content
