Claribel A. Ortega is an American children's fantasy author and podcaster best known for her 2020 novel Ghost Squad.
Writing[edit]
Publishers Weekly named Ortega one of Spring 2020's "Flying Starts"[1] and awarded her first book, Ghost Squad, a starred review.[2] Ghost Squad was also named one of NPR's Best Books of 2020.[3] In early 2020, it was announced that Oscar-winning director Brenda Chapman would direct a film adaptation of Ghost Squad,[4] however the project was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[5]
In January 2021, it was announced that Ortega's second novel, Witchlings, was acquired by Scholastic for publication in 2022.[6]
Podcasts[edit]
Since 2018, Ortega co-hosts the Write or Die podcast with young adult author Kat Cho.[7] In 2020, she started the Celebrity Book Club podcast with co-host with author Ryan La Sala.[8]
