Company Background[edit]

"Claroty is the three-year-old progeny of Team8, a security startup foundry with roots in the Israeli military’s Unit 8200, its top cyber intelligence outfit."[6] "The two companies Team8 has launched so far are Claroty and Illusive Networks. Claroty secures and optimizes industrial control networks, the critical infrastructure that is increasingly under cyberattack around the world. Illusive Networks focuses on neutralizing targeted attacks and Advanced Persistent Threats by creating a deceptive layer across the entire network, providing false information to attackers."[7]

Claroty was co-founded by former Israeli Defense Force researcher and developer Amir Zilberstein, who also co-founded ICS firewall firm Waterfall Security Solutions; Galina Antova, the former global head of industrial security services at Siemens; and Benny Porat, former researcher with the Israeli Defense Force and NorthBit.[1]

Funding[edit]

In 2016, Claroty finalized its Series A funding round by securing $32 million in capital from key investors such as Bessemer Venture Partners, Innovation Endeavors, and Marker.[8]

As reported on June 11, 2018; Claroty received $60 million in its series B round of funding. Investors include Temasek, Rockwell Automation, Next47 (global venture firm backed by Siemens), Aster Capital (global venture firm sponsored by Schneider Electric), Envision Ventures, and Tekfen Ventures.[2]

Products[edit]

Claroty’s integrated portfolio is comprised of 4 components: Continuous Threat Detection, Secure Remote Access, Security Posture Assessment, and Enterprise Management Console.

Continuous Threat Detection[edit]

Claroty Continuous Threat Detection, monitors industrial control system network traffic and generates alerts for anomalous network behavior that indicates a malicious presence and for changes that have the potential to disrupt the industrial processes. The system runs on a server or as a VM connected to the SPAN port on managed switches or to dedicated hardware taps, and employs deep packet inspection on a real-time copy of network traffic.[1] When connected to an industrial network, the system automatically discovers assets, learns network topology, models the network’s unique communication patterns and creates a behavioral baseline that characterizes legitimate traffic. Following the learning period, alerts are triggered for any violation of the baseline.[9]

Secure Remote Access[edit]

Claroty Secure Remote Access manages and enforces remote access policies for industrial control networks. Network administrators employ the solution to enforce policies regarding which network assets remote users can see and access, when they can log into each asset, and the authentication-level required for access.  The system also enables administrators to monitor and record remote access sessions and instantly terminate a session at any time.[10]

Security Posture Assessment[edit]

Claroty Security Posture Analysis is an offline assessment product that provides security teams with visibility and insights into the OT network’s security risk posture. The tool consumes a PCAP (packet capture) data file, collected from a network switch, and produces a report which includes a summary and analysis of the assets and communications discovered on the industrial network, identification of vulnerable assets, and contextual mitigation recommendations.[11][9]

Enterprise Management Console[edit]

Claroty Enterprise Management Console is a centralized server that aggregates displays a consolidated view of all asset data, activities, alerts and access control sessions from Claroty products deployed across multiple sites. The Enterprise Management Console can integrate with various security information and event management, log management and other security analytic products.
