Class Is Over[lower-alpha 1] is the debut extended play (EP) by the South Korean girl group Classy. It was released on May 5, 2022, by M25 and OGAM Entertainment, and distributed by Kakao Entertainment. All songs on Class Is Over were released as title tracks, with "Shut Down" additionally categorized as a "main" title track; they were simultaneously released with the EP. It was released following the group's formation on MBC's My Teenage Girl (2021–2022).

The EP was produced by Ryan Jhun

Commercially, Class Is Over peaked at number seven on South Korea's Circle Album Chart, and has sold over twenty-eight thousand units. "Shut Down" peaked at number seventy-five on the Circle Download Chart and was subsequently released in Japan with a re-recorded Japanese-language version on June 22, 2022, which peaked at number twenty-four on the Oricon Singles Chart.

Background

On February 27, 2022, the lineup of Classy was announced during the live finale of the reality competition series My Teenage Girl. Myung Hyung-seo, Yoon Chae-won, Hong Hye-ju, Kim Ri-won, Won Ji-min, Park Bo-eun, and Kim Seon-you were selected as members of the group.[1] Before Class Is Over was announced, the group promoted the song "Surprise" on South Korean music shows, which was previously performed on My Teenage Girl by its contestants.[2] On March 14, 2023, Sports Kyunghyang reported that the group began preparing for the release of a debut album and a "fan concert", slated for late April.[3] M25 revealed on April 16, 2025 that the group's first mini album was set to be released on May.[4] The EP's title and release date were ultimately unveiled on April 18 via their SNS channels.[5]

Composition

Class Is Over was produced by the South Korean songwriter Ryan Jhun.[6] The opening track, "Up", is a dance-pop track characterized by a "bouncy" melody and bassline. The EP's second track, "Shut Down", was described as a "K-wood" style song, a combination of K-pop and Bollywood music, as well as a dance song. "Tell Me One More Time" is a dance-pop song featuring a jazz-inspired groove. "Super Cool" is a dance hip-hop song incorporating bass and whistling sounds. The closing track, "Feelin' So Good", features a kitsch-inspired introduction and vocal harmonies.[7]

Release

Promotion

Following the release of Class Is Over, mobile rhythm game SuperStar Teenage Girls, developed by Dalcomsoft and initially launched as a promotional game for My Teenage Girl, was rebranded as SuperStar Classy, adding "Shut Down" to its track list.[8] Physical copies of the EP included a coupon code for the game.[9]

Live performances

A press showcase concert was held on May 4, 2022, at the Yes24 Live Hall in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul.[10] In support of Class Is Over, the group held a online concert on May 4, 2022, via Naver Now titled Classy Begins, in which "Shut Down" was performed for the first time.[11]

Commercial performance

"Shut Down" failed to chart domestically,[12] but peaked at number 75 on the component Circle Download Chart.[13]
