Claude Guet
Claude Guet is a French physicist whose research spans nuclear physics, atomic physics, nanophysics, fluid dynamics, and many-body theory. He has held senior scientific and administrative positions at the Commissariat à l’énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives (CEA), including Chief of Staff to the High Commissioner for Atomic Energy, Chief of Science of the Nuclear Defence Division (DAM), and Director of Nuclear Education and Training.[1] He joined Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore in 2012 as a visiting professor and contributed to the creation of joint NTU–CEA laboratories in circular economy and nuclear fusion.[2][3] He is a Colonel de la réserve citoyenne de l’Armée de l’air et de l’Espace.[4]
Early life and education
Guet studied physics at the Université Joseph Fourier (Grenoble I). He earned a Doctorat de 3ᵉ cycle in nuclear physics in 1974 and a Doctorat d’État in 1979.
Academic and research career
Guet was recruited in September 1979 as a tenured research physicist at the Department of Basic Research (Département de Recherches Fondamentales) of the CEA in Grenoble.[1]
He held visiting positions at several international research institutions, including the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen, the Harvard–Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, the Institute for Nuclear Theory at the University of Washington, and the Yukawa Institute for Theoretical Physics in Kyoto.

Career at CEA
Guet held several senior leadership roles at the CEA, including:[1]
- Chief of Staff to the High Commissioner for Atomic Energy
- Head of the Theoretical Physics Department of the Nuclear Defence Division (DAM)
- Chief of Science of the Nuclear Defence Division
- Director of Nuclear Education and Training
- Director of International Affairs of the International Institute of Nuclear Energy (I2EN)
Reserve status
Guet serves as a Colonel de la réserve citoyenne in the Armée de l’air et de l’Espace, a distinction granted in March 2014.[4]
International roles
At Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Guet served as Programme Director for Research at the Energy Research Institute (ERI@N), contributing to the establishment of a joint NTU–CEA laboratory on circular economy.[2] At the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS), he contributed to creating a joint NTU–CEA laboratory dedicated to nuclear fusion research.[3]
He was also a featured speaker at the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2017 conference.[5]
Research contributions
Guet’s scientific work covers nuclear fission, nuclear structure, many-body theory, atomic physics, nanophysics, and fluid dynamics. He has authored more than 135 peer-reviewed publications with over 8,300 citations and an h-index of 43.[6]
