Claude Zidi Jr. (born Claude Pierre Michel Zidi on 24 November 1980 in the 8th arrondissement of Paris) is a French film director and screenwriter, known for his work in popular French comedy. He is the son of legendary French filmmaker Claude Zidi, director of such classics as Les Ripoux and Astérix et Obélix contre César.
Family Background
Claude Zidi Jr. comes from a family with Franco-Algerian and Alsatian roots. His paternal grandfather, Mohand Tayeb Zidi (1905–1991), was born in Tifra, Algeria, and his paternal grandmother, Marguerite Georgette Krug (1910–1971), was born in Ostwald, Alsace.
He is one of six children of director Claude Zidi, five of whom have pursued careers in film and entertainment. His siblings include theatre and film director Hélène Zidi-Cheruy, actress Marie Zidi, filmmaker Zoltan Zidi, and the late director Julien Zidi (1975–2021), who died in 2021.[1]
Career
Early Work (2005–2017)
Zidi Jr. began his career in 2005 by directing the short film Le Monde ne marche plus, followed in 2006 by the television film En chaîne, made for France 2. During the years that followed, he worked as a camera operator on several French television series, including Central nuit and Que du bonheur. He also directed advertising campaigns and a series of comedy sketches for comedian Titoff broadcast on Canal+.[1]
Les Déguns (2018)
In 2018, Zidi Jr. co-directed his first feature film, Les Déguns, with Cyrille Droux. A comedy set in Marseille, the film attracted around 470,000 admissions in French cinemas, establishing Zidi Jr. as a rising voice in French popular comedy.[1]

The film follows Antoine, a young man from the Paris suburbs studying accountancy without conviction, who divides his time between rap battles and working as a sushi delivery driver — until he is discovered by a teacher at the Opéra National de Paris. Starring Michèle Laroque and singer Mohamed Belkhir (MB14), the film drew around 400,000 admissions.[2]
Les Déguns 2 (2023)
Zidi Jr. returned to the Les Déguns universe in 2023, again co-directing with Cyrille Droux. The sequel, which sees the two Marseillais protagonists back at square one after failing once more to make their way in the world, surpassed its predecessor with over 506,000 admissions.[1]
Maison de retraite 2 (2024)
In 2024, Zidi Jr. succeeded Thomas Gilou as director of the Maison de retraite franchise, helming Maison de retraite 2. Released on 14 February 2024, the film was written by Kev Adams and Élodie Hesme, and stars Adams alongside Jean Reno, Daniel Prévost, Liliane Rovère, and Firmine Richard, with new appearances from Amanda Lear, Chantal Ladesou, Michel Jonasz, and Enrico Macias.[3]
The film was presented in competition at the Alpe d'Huez International Comedy Film Festival 2024 and became a major commercial success, drawing 1,557,651 admissions in French cinemas.[1] It was broadcast on TF1 on 1 March 2026.
