Claudelle Clarke
Claudelle Clarke (born November 1, 1949) is a Jamaican singer-songwriter known as "The Queen of Reggae Gospel".[1][2]
Biography
Clarke began singing at six years old in the Sunday School Choir of the New Testament Church of God, in Yallahs, St. Thomas, Jamaica, along with her sisters Millicent and Carol Clarke. At 10 years old, Clarke recorded her first hit single "Seven Days Make One Week" on the Treasure Isle Label with Stranger Cole. She worked at Studio One with Bob and Rita Marley, Peter Tosh, Alton Ellis, and sang back-up for the song "Sweet Beat Rocking Down Orange Street" by Prince Buster before going on to perform gospel exclusively.[1]
On May 4, 2008, Clarke was inducted into the International Reggae and World Music Awards Hall of Fame.[3]
Clarke currently lives in Georgia, United States, with her three children and grandchildren.[4]
