Claudio Hetz Flores is a professor at the University of Chile Faculty of Medicine[1]. His laboratory studies Neurodegeneration disorders [2]
Early life and education
Born Claudio Andrés Hetz Flores in 1976 in the Chilean city of Santiago. Hetz Graduated as a Biotechnology engineer in 2000 at University of Chile and obtained his PhD in 2005 from the Pharmaceutical company Serono[3] mentored by the Scientist Claudio Soto [4]
Career
Claudio Hetz trained as a postdoc for one year (8/2004-8/2005) with the American oncologist Stanley J. Korsmeyer (1950-5/2005) and for 2 years (8/2005-12/2007) at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health with the American immunologist Laurie Glimcher[3]. Hetz was an Adjunct Assistant Professor (equivalent to instructor or co-instructor) at the same institution [5] . He was appointed as associate professor at the University of Chile faculty of Medicine in 2007 and as full professor in 2010 [3] [1]. Hetz is the Director of the Chilean Millennium Institute of Biomedical Neuroscience, BNI [6]
His research has been extensively portrayed in the Chilean media [7][8][9][10][11] and he has an author profile at the Journal of the American Association for Cancer Research [12].

Hetz received founding from several charitable foundations including the The Michael J. Fox Foundation in four occasions [5] , the Alzheimer’s Association, USA [13] and the Christopher Reeve Foundation [3]
Controversy
Several of the scientific papers published by Claudio Hetz have been flagged by PubPeer for irregular manipulation of images and plagiarism [14] [15] and have been subsequently corrected. His mentor Claudio Soto has also been accused of data manipulation publishing together with Hetz and independently [15][16] [17]. An internal investigation cleared Hetz of scientific misconduct charges (ref needed).
