Claws is an online music collective focused on creativity and supporting small artists. It was founded in January 2022 by Matoi & snowtoucan. However, since July 2022, Matoi departed and the collective has been run by snowtoucan ever since.
Background
Before Claws was officially founded, the collective operated under 'Flume & Friends', a server on Discord created by skinnyhobo in August 2018 for fans of electronic music artist Flume. Over the years, the group became popular with music producers, especially those creating vapor twitch - a genre derived from future bass.
The owner, skinnyhobo, eventually began regular competitions between producers, some for cash prizes. These were often supported by snowtoucan, a regular in the community who eventually organised the first collaborative event: the 'Mega Collab', in 2021. Teams of 3–4 people worked together to create the best song they could. Eventually, all the songs were released as an EP on Bandcamp.
These frequent events brought the community together and created the need for the production group to establish themselves as an independent collective, detached from Flume. Thus, on 25th January 2022, Claws was founded.
