Cleancult (stylized as "cleancult") is a New York-based company that delivers household green cleaning products to customers by mail [1]. The company delivers on a monthly basis and currently specializes in eco-friendly, non-toxic detergents. [2]

History[edit]

cleancult was founded by Ryan Lupberger and Zachary Bedrosian. The pair met as students at Babson College [3] and after speaking about the lack of transparency in regards to the chemicals used in different types of cleaners, they decided to create cleancult. [4] In July of 2016, they funded a Kickstarter campaign [5] and launched their first beta product.

With the capital raised from its Kickstarter campaign and external investments from start-up accelerator Parallel 18 [6] , the company launched its first product, the cleancult Pouch, in May of 2017. Shortly after, the company moved part of its operations to Puerto Rico, [7] after a successful run in the Parallel18 accelerator. [8]

After the passing of Hurricane Maria through Puerto Rico, the company was determined to help rebuild the island[9], offering 25% of all profits to an island relief fund. [10] [11][12] [13]

After a successful Indiegogo campaign [14] the company introduced five new products in August of 2018: All Purpose Cleaner, Liquid Dish Soap, Dishwasher Tablets, Dryer Balls, and a Hand Bar Soap. A few weeks later, the company was awarded a Gold Award from MassChallenge Boston [15], one of 19 companies selected out of a pool of 128 participants. [16]

Products[edit]

cleancult offered its laundry pacs in three different plans, depending on the subscribers specific needs: "The Small Family" (18 pacs every month), "The Couple" (18 pacs every two months) and "Bachelor" (18 pacs every three months). [17] The membership service first launched in June of 2017 via Product Hunt.

As of August 2018, the company sells its 6 products on a direct-to-consumer business model with membership plan options available. Membership plans are currently based on the customers' needs and may vary. [18]

Ingredients to all products are readily available to consumers and their main ingredient is Saponified Coconut Oil.
