Cleon Peterson is a Los Angeles based artist who creates violent, disrupted and somewhat political art that reflects struggles in complementary society. Cleon often only uses black, white, red, and yellow in his paintings and prints to symbolize a bold message of, "a struggle between power and submission in the fluctuating architecture of contemporary society"[1]. Cleon is a recognizable and respected artist in the creative industry. He uses harsh contrasts to depict shadows which may suggest a metaphor of two sides within a person. He has work showcased around the world and has worked on many unique commissions, including multiple artistic collaborations with Grammy award winning rock band "Portugal. The Man.

Early Life and Career[edit]

Cleon Peterson was born in Seattle, Washington on December 5th, 1973. Cleon had started drinking and smoking at a really young age and around early adulthood, Cleon became addicted to heroin. Cleon's addiction progressed and he started loosing his friends family and even a place to sleep. He was arrested several times for drug possession and after he went to jail once he could not seem to stay out. At 25 years old Cleon decided to become clean and quit drug use for good. A good friend of Cleon's, Shepard Fairey, owned a design studio and offered him a place to work and make art. He made art and even painted on skateboards. He continued to pursue art and started to publicly sell it. In 2007 he had his art showcased at one of the biggest art shows in the world, Art Basel in Miami Beach which was a huge advancement for his career. He is currently 49 years old and �resides in Los Angeles, California. Not much is known about Cleon's family life but it is known that he has been married and has multiple children.
