Biography[edit]

Hailing from Gadsden, Alabama[1], Clever began releasing music in 2006, dropping his debut mixtape 1nce More. In the same year, he appeared on 106 & Park, a music video countdown show hosted by Black Entertainment Television.[2] He gained recognition in 2019 after being featured on "Ring Ring", a track from Juice Wrld's second studio album,[1] which became his first entry on the national Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart.[3] He later released his debut EP Who Is Clever?, consisting of eleven tracks and released by Grade A Productions. [4]

In 2020, he featured on will.i.am's hit "Penelope," which broke the record for the single with the most weeks at number one on the Suomen virallinen lista and earned him a statue and a nomination for Song of the Year at the Emma-gaala, Finland's most important music award ceremony. [5][6] He also took part in Justin Bieber's "Forever," featured on the album Changes, which was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America for selling over 500,000 units and debuted on the charts in over twenty countries, including Germany and the United Kingdom.[7][8]

The following year, his debut album Crazy was released by Grade A Productions and Republic Records, preceded by singles like "Rolls Royce Umbrella," featuring Chris Brown, and "Life's a Mess II," featuring Juice Wrld and Post Malone,[9] with the latter earning him his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. [10] In late July, he performed at Lollapalooza.[11][12]
