History[edit]

Infinis Workspace Editor

Founded in 2008 by Telmo Silva and initially registered as ClicPharma SARL in Lille, France, the company was focused around data analytics and visualization solely for the pharmaceutical industry, namely working with Merck Serono, Roche and Boehringer Ingelheim at the corporate or global level, and Pfizer and Sigma Tau in France. Additionally, ClicPharma provided design, architecture, development and training for IMS Health (now IQVIA) for one of their most ambitious data platform initiatives named IMS One later renamed Nexxus.

The focus of ClicPharma was to provide process and technical support to marketing, sales and medical teams and along the way developed unique tools to process and analyze a variety of data sets for this highly regulated and complex sector. Overtime, ClicPharma evolved their data engine and in 2010, changed their name to ClicData and launched their on-premise BI software entitled Infinis.

Infinis 2 Login Screen

Infinis was the first attempt at creating a limitless workspace where data would be dragged and dropped into it and immediately usable and visualized in a variety of ways. The workspace would allow users to overlap data sets into each other immediately creating links between the data and the application would learn from these links over time to build its knowledge base of data relationships.

The software was built using several types of frameworks and components, from Adobe Flash, Silverlight, JavaScript and HTML to .NET and SQL Server 2008 and later 2012 Database and Analysis Services. The mixed on-premise environments, the late adoption of new browsers by customers and the lack of standards across browsers (prior to HTML 5) made it difficult to advance the product in a rapid fashion.

The promise of Microsoft Silverlight as a browser front end standard tool and its strong visual standardization and capabilities around XAML made it enticing enough to rewrite most of the front end code into a new release called Infinis 2 (i2 for short) in 2011. i2 was still an on-premise software, delivered as an appliance to customers on-site, and with i2, ClicPharma branched out of pharma to other sectors.

Infinis 3 Dashboard Editor

The Microsoft Silverlight promise of a cross-browser supported plugin was short lived and soon, as Microsoft support for this technology declined in favour of a more standard web with adoption and promotion of HTML5 in 2012, ClicData re-architectured the entire application not only to use HTML5 front end but also to be a multi-tenant, SaaS platform. It also changed its name to ClicData from ClicPharma since it no longer catered just to the Pharmaceutical sector. The re-engineering process of i3 took 2.5 years to accomplish plus 1M US$ of investment[2] and in 2015, i3 was released in beta. Hosted on OVH servers in France, i3 has many of the same elements of the previous version but the concept of endless or limitless workspace was removed in favour of dashboards, limited to a specific screen size.

Infinis 3 was in beta for 2 years as a free to use BI platform under the tag name "Dashboards Made Easy". By the end of 2017, over 30,000 accounts were registered which enabled the operations and engineering team to improve front and back end code to handle the stress put on database and servers. This knowledge and improvements to many of its components were introduced in the next and final release - ClicData (i4).

ClicData Dashboard Editor

ClicData is hosted in Microsoft Azure in 5 data centers around the world. It uses SQL Azure Database with both Columnar and non-Columnar store indexing, Redis and Azure storage for many of its operations. In addition to the front end, completely redone in HTML 5, with LESS and jQuery frameworks, it also includes 3 native mobile application for iPhone, iPad and Android.
