Clifford Mayhew Dodkins
Colonel Clifford Mayhew Dodkins CBE DSO (October 1914 – June 1974), known to his fellow officers as "Dodders", was a British Army officer, intelligence specialist and later author of books on Third Reich Militaria. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order[1] in 1946, the Order of the British Empire[2] in 1957 and the Commander of the British Empire in the New Years Honours List 1967.[3]
He also amassed a well known collection of militaria which was sold by his widow some years after his death, in 1987.
War time service[edit]
Dodkins was commissioned into the Indian Army in 1935, and after the Partition he transferred to the British Service until 1966, when he retired and returned to England, where he continued to serve with the army until his retirement in 1973.[4]
His wartime service included time with the 8th Light Cavalry, 1st Ghurkhas and 3rd Carabiniers.
Intelligence work and interests[edit]
He was an acknowledged authority on the Imperial German Army and its successors until 1945[5] and amassed a substantial collection of badges and medals from this era.

He was employed as an intelligence Officer towards the end of the war, he used this opportunity to expand his collection of rare and sought after Imperial and Nazi German awards.

After his death in 1974, his obituary was published in The Bulletin of the Military History Society.
Sale of militaria collection[edit]
His widow sold his collection of Imperial and Nazi German Militaria by auction in April and June 1987.
It notably included many rare awards such as the 20th Juli Wound Badge and the Pour le Mérite, or "Blue Max"
