Cloud City Cast (podcast)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Cloud City Cast is a free Fresno, California based podcast available on iTunes and Stitcher covering news from Star Wars, Disney, and Marvel as well as discussing those fandoms. It was launched on August 2, 2015 by Liam DiCosimo and Manoah Crane. (Though Manoah left as host sometime around 2016 due to no longer having the free time to host the show, with Liam's wife, Brittany taking over as cohost, though Manoah would occasionally join as a "guest" to discuss new Star Wars releases such as "Rogue One" and "Star Wars: The Last Jedi") The shows format follows by beginning with "Adventures in Fandom" (later changed to "Fandamonium") where the hosts would discuss what they had done relating to the 3 main fandoms of Star Wars, Disney, and Marvel. (Such as what movies from those respective properties they had watched, or simply what merchandise relating to those properties they had bought between episodes.). Then it would delve into "Around the Galaxy" where the hosts would read new relating to Lucasfilm, The Walt Disney Company, and Marvel Entertainment, that had been published during the week and give their thoughts on it. Finally, to conclude, the podcast would transition to "Fan Flag Fly" where the hosts would give shoutouts to fans who had uploaded pictures of themselves expressing their fandom, or leaving comments on their Instagram page. [1] The show is generally around an hour long, though some episodes have been 90 minutes or longer.

The hosts would occasionally have guests on the show for interviews, which they would call "copilots". Guests were usually friends of the hosts, such as Liam's fellow Honor Bright band member, Tim Paige[2], or Make-A-Wish Foundation child Joshua Hickey. [3] At the end of the interviews the hosts would play "Fire When Ready" where the guest had to choose a character from Star Wars, Disney, or Marvel, and would then be asked a question such as "Why would your character be the best pilot for the Millennium Falcon?" or "Why would your character be your prom date?" The guest would then have to defend their choice against the hosts' choices.

The show would occassionally host giveways where fans could win prizes ranging from Funko toys to Disneyland merchandise. Fans were often entered based on leaving comments on Instagram posts, though this was not always the only way to enter.

Originally, the podcast was weekly, with an occasional unplanned midweek episode (sometimes called "nerd alert" episodes), such as interviews from a convention,[4] or movie trailer reviews of Star Wars, Disney, and Marvel movies[5], but beginning on May 4, 2016[6], spanned into 3 times a week with Mondays focusing on Marvel (called "Marvel Mondays",) Wednesdays focusing on Disney (called "Wonderful World of Disney Wednesdays', though this was later changed to simply "Walt Wednesday") and Fridays focusing on Star Wars. (called "Force Fridays"). Due to time constraints in the hosts' personal lives, the 3-shows-a-week format concluded on April 28, 2017[7] and the show returned to its 1-show-a-week format.

The show started a "mini podcast" entitled "I Can't Believe You Haven't Seen That!" where Liam and Brittany would choose films that the other person hadn't seen, and they would discuss both of them. [8] (Though they would do episodes based on Marvel Cinematic Universe (film series) films as well to promote Avengers: Infinity War) They would also ask a trivia question relating to one of the films, and the first person to answer correctly on the Instagram post for that episode would be entered into a giveaway.

On July 31, 2018, the show's 300th episode, it was announced that the Cloud City Cast name would be dropped and rebranded as "Here You Leave Today Radio" (abbreviated on the show's social media pages and download pages as "HYLT Radio")[9]. This was to emphasise that the show did not exclusively focus on Star Wars, as the hosts were concerned that the name Cloud City (named after a planet from the "Star Wars" franchise) would mislead other potential listeners who were interested in the other two topics of Disney and/or Marvel, but not necessarily Star Wars. The show launched with its new name on August 6, 2018.[10], though it stated it was episode 301, as opposed to starting over. The description of the episodes under this new name now have "show notes'' where the host provides timestamps for each topic being discussed that episode. (Cloud City Cast had not previously done so.)
