Club Cataluya was a football soccer club that played in Mexico City during the golden age of soccer in the 1920s. The club now plays in the Liga Espanola De Futbol De Mexico under the name Barcelona.
History
Club was founded in 1917[1] by the local Spaniard community from the Catalan region, the club was known to be formed only by players of that region. The club was trying to join the Campeonato de Primera Fuerza, which was at the moment the top tier football league in Mexico, by hiring Percy Clifford, a legend in the introduction of the sport in Mexico. In 1918, the club won the Segunda Fuerza. Although the club played some of the best football for its time, the club failed to earn promotion to the first division, which in 1923 cost the club to split up, having some of its best players leave and join first division clubs such as Club Asturias and Real Club España.
Recent Time
The club has participated in the national Spaniard Amateur League in Mexico. The club alternates between Cataluya and Barcelona names and uniforms since the 1940s.
Kit
The club was surrounded by many clubs from Spain who had adopted their local regional flag colors, and Club Cataluya did just that. Their jersey was a vertical yellow and red striped shirt which was inspired by the flag of Catalonia.
