Clutch Prep is a video-based tutoring system founded in 2010.[1][2] The platform enables students from 125 American universities to browse for their school and textbooks to find relevant tutoring videos.[3] The model is based on providing content, examples, and practice problems based around specific textbooks.[4]

History

Clutch Prep is an educational software founded by Johnny Betancourt, Marcio Souza, Artem Volos, and Alain Fontaine. They started tutoring while they were still students at Florida International University. After growing their student base, they decided to develop an online tutoring program that would help college students simplify their studying.

In 2011, they invested the revenue in creating a brick-and-mortar tutoring center, serving the FIU and UM communities. In 2014, Clutch Prep was accepted into Techstars Chicago for the summer accelerator program.[5][6] [7] That year, they did an experimental launch of the online program to 20 universities.[8] After receiving feedback, the platform expanded to 125 universities offering over 14,500 practice problems.[9] In 2015, Clutch Prep was accepted to 500 Startups Miami Batch 1 Growth Distro to improve their online efforts.[10] In 2016, they shut down the Clutch Tutoring center to focus all their efforts on Clutch Prep.

The platform currently has more than 500,000 accounts created on a national scale and supports students in over 90 countries.[11][12][13][14]
