Coastcity (Formed on 2016) Grammy nominated artist-production duo comprised of Jean Rodríguez and Danny Flores, two talented and multi-faceted musicians who created an avant-garde bilingual musical project.

Musical career[edit]

While working together on Jean’s third studio album, Rodríguez and Flores realized what they were creating was simply magic. It was then they decided to put Jean’s album on hold and embark on a joint musical venture establishing themselves as a production-artist duo. Creating their own musical lane, both lyrically and through a fresh and innovative sound, they created a new genre and coined the term “soul caribeño” (Caribbean soul) to describe their music. Dubbed the “Latino N.E.R.D.”, individually and/or together COASTCITY has worked with renowned artists such as: Beyoncé, Shakira, Luis Fonsi, J Balvin, Marc Anthony, Prince Royce, Chris Brown, Juanes, TreySongz, and Yandel, amongst others.

Jean Rodriguez[edit]

Born in Puerto Rico to a music oriented family, Jean Rodriguez has explored every single field in music production. From an early age, he showed outstanding singing abilities and became a member of several kids’ choirs and groups around the island. After moving to Orlando with his family as a teenager, Jean was heavily influenced by rock, hip pop, and R&B. His musical ambition drove him to live in L.A., New York, and Miami; where he has worked as a singer, songwriter, arranger, engineer, and producer for an array of musical projects by renown artists.

In 2012, his work as a vocal producer for Juanes’ MTV Unplugged album, which won Latin Grammys for Album of the Year, Producer of the Year, and Best Long Form Video, landed Jean his first Latin Grammy certificate. This year (2017), Jean was nominated again in several Latin Grammy categories including: vocal producer and engineer for Prince Royce's FIVE album nominated for Best Contemporary Tropical Album, together with Danny Flores they wrote and produced the song "X" featuring Zendaya and co-wrote and produced "Just as I am" featuring Chris Brown and Spiff TV for Prince Royce's FIVE album nominated for Best Contemporary Tropical Album. Danny Flores’ passion for music as a young boy led him first to the piano as a form of self-expression. Shortly after he found his way into songwriting followed by arranging, as a musical director, and in live music production. His successful career is not only based on his profound knowledge of music, but also on the development of profound personal relationships with the artists with whom he has worked, in an industry that seems to be steered by competitiveness than the art itself.

Danny is a leader who has built an outstanding run as a music director for projects involving promising artists like Rihanna Kurig and CNCO. His understanding of the singer’s sensibility has acquired him multiple credits as a singing coach in the TV shows The American Idol Experience (Walt Disney Entertainment), Yo Soy el Artista (NBC Telemundo) and La Banda (Univision).

In 2017, Danny Flores received his first Latin Grammy nomination as part of the group of writers and producers that worked on Prince Royce’s FIVE album.
