Cobalt (company)
Cobalt is a remote-first cybersecurity startup.[1] The company—sometimes referred to as Cobalt.io or Cobalt Labs—provides a Pentest as a Service (PtaaS) platform that connects companies to penetration testers via a global marketplace.[2]
Cobalt has served over 750 customers across the globe since 2013.[3] Cobalt focuses exclusively on cybersecurity pentesting and is ranked in the top 1,000 companies by Crunchbase.

Cobalt was founded in July 2013 by Danish co-founders Jacob Hansen, Esben Friis-Jensen, Jakob Storm and Christian Hansen. In 2016, Caroline Wong joined as Chief Strategy Officer.[4]
Originally known as Crowdcurity, the company began as a bug bounty platform, along with companies like HackerOne and BugCrowd.[5] It eventually evolved into a Pentest as a Service (PtaaS) platform that connects customers to a global marketplace of pentesters.[6] Cobalt’s platform offers data insights, analytics, and workflow integration.[6]
Funding[edit]
In 2014, Cobalt (then Crowdcurity) raised $1 million in seed funding in a round led by Tim Draper and Kima Ventures.[7] In 2016, the company received an additional $1.5 million in seed funding in a round led by eLab Ventures, with additional investment from Tim Draper with Draper Associates.[8] A $5 million Series A round was led by byFounders in May 2018, with Managing Partner Eric Lagier joining Cobalt’s board of directors.[9] In August 2020, Cobalt raised $29 million in Series B funding led by Highland Europe, for a total of $37 million in investments to date.[3]

With a globally distributed team, Cobalt maintains offices in San Francisco, Boston and Berlin.[6] In 2020, at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the company announced a permanent shift to remote work.[1]
