Colin Heathcock
Colin Yang Siqi Heathcock (born December 20, 2005) is an American right-handed sabre fencer.[1]
Early life
Heathcock was born and raised in the Wudaokou neighborhood of Beijing, China, and as a child studied at Tsinghua University Primary School. He is fluent in both Mandarin Chinese and English and has dual American and German citizenship.
At the age of 10, Heathcock was first introduced to sabre fencing in Palo Alto, California by six-time world champion and Olympic gold medalist George Pogosov[2] at Stanford University. At that time, Stanford undergraduates Alexandar Massialas and Vivian Kong were both training at the same facility.[3]
In 2019, Heathcock moved to France to study under world-renowned sabre coach Christian Bauer[4][5] at his academy in Orléans.[6] At the Christian Bauer Academy,[7] Heathcock trained with Sandro Bazadze, Boladé Apithy, Manon Apithy-Brunet, Iulian Teodosiu, Despina Georgiadou, and many other Olympians and senior world championship medalists. In 2023, the French press anointed Heathcock the next young sabre prodigy.[8]

Senior Career
Heathcock made his senior team debut on February 12, 2023 to help lead Team USA to a third place finish in Poland.[9] Together with Dayrl Homer, Eli Dershwitz, and Grant Williams, this was the team's best result since 2016.[10]
On February 12, 2023 at the Pan American Championships[11] in Lima, Peru, Heathcock won his first gold medal for Team USA fencing with Eli Dershwitz, Mitchell Saron, and Andrew Doddo in the men's team sabre event.[12]
On July 28, 2023, Heathcock made history with teammates Eli Dershwitz, Mitchell Saron, and Andrew Doddo to become the first US men's sabre team to medal at a senior world championship since the event was first held in 1930.[13] Team USA defeated France, 45-44, in the bronze medal match to earn third place at the 2023 Senior World Fencing Championships in Milan, Italy.[14] At 17 years old, Heathcock was the youngest member of the US world team for all weapons (Sabre, Épée and Foil).[15] Upon the conclusion of the 2022-2023 season, Heathcock helped Team USA earn their highest year-end world ranking since 2016 for men's team sabre (3rd place).[16][17]

Junior and Cadet Career
In April 2023, Heathcock became a three-time Junior World Champion after winning two gold medals[22][23] at the 2023 Junior World Fencing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria at just the age of 17. He was the first US male sabre fencer to win back-to-back individual Junior World Championships (albeit his first title was with Germany in 2022), and he was the first US male sabre fencer to win two junior gold medals at a single world championships.[24]
Heathcock is also the first US male sabre fencer to maintain a world no. 1 ranking for two consecutive years from 2021 to 2023.[25][26][27]
In 2022 while representing Germany, Heathcock won gold[28] in the Junior men's sabre event and silver[29] in the Cadet men's sabre event at the 2022 Cadet and Junior World Championships in Dubai.
Also while representing Germany in 2022, Heathcock was the first men's sabre fencer to win three gold medals[30][31] at a single Cadet and Junior European Championships. In 2020, Heathcock was the youngest men's sabre fencer ever to win an individual Cadet European Championship at the age of 14.[32][33]
