College Publisher

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

College Publisher is an online hosted college newspaper system used by hundreds of college newspapers around the United States. The product is an application service provider that provides web site design and hosting. In exchange for providing the web hosting service, the company receives national advertising rights on website, the email news version, and the physical print edition of the newspaper. College Publisher currently has partnered with more than 450 publications nationwide, comprising the largest network of online student newspapers in the United States.

College Publisher was created in 1999 by Emerson College students and is largely operated by recent graduates. The system was owned by Y2M Networks, located in Government Center, Boston, Massachusetts, which was purchased in August 2006 by mtvU. The company soon moved to New York. [1] A private investment group acquired College Publisher from mtvU in 2010.[citation needed] The Access Network managed College Media Network for two years, before it was again spun off to a Boston-based investment firm. In spring 2014, it was again sold to Chicago-based ULoop.

The CP servers were hit with an DDoS attack in early Feb. 2010, causing a large number of student publications to lose multiple weeks worth of content.[citation needed]
