The College of Business (COB)[1] is the business school of Minnesota State University, Mankato, a public university in Mankato, Minnesota. Across nine undergraduate and graduate major programs, the College of Business enrolls over 2,000 students each year.

Academic programs[edit]

Undergraduate programs[edit]

The College of Business offers six Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees in six areas: accounting, agribusiness & food innovation, finance (investment, corporate, quantitative, and general tracks), marketing, management (human resource and general tracks), and international business. The COB offers a fully online Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program targeted toward degree-completion and nontraditional students.[2]

In addition, the College of Business offers a certificate program in business analytics.[3] It offers minors in accounting, actuarial science, agribusiness, business administration, business law, financial planning, human resource management, international business, and marketing.[3]

Graduate programs[edit]

The College of Business at Minnesota State University, Mankato offers two fully online master's programs: a Master of Business Administration (MBA)[4] and a Master of Accounting (MAcc) program.[5]

Campus[edit]

The College of Business office is located within Morris Hall at the Minnesota State University, Mankato main campus, where many of its courses are held.[6][7] The COB also holds classes in Armstrong Hall.

The Hubbard Building in downtown Mankato hosts two classrooms and the Small Business Development Center,[8] a research centered focused on the creation and sustainability of small businesses in the southern Minnesota region.

  • Beta Alpha Psi[12] – international honorary organization for financial information professionals, with peer-to-peer accountancy tutoring
  • Finance Club[13] – organization for students interested in finance to connect, speak with company recruiters, and compete in undergraduate banking competitions
  • Financial Planning Club[14] – organization for students interested in learning about financial planning, host of Mav Money Talks podcast
  • National Association of Black Accountants[15] – professional association for Black students interested in accounting and finance to connect and gain access to internship/job opportunities

Analytics and technology organizations[edit]

  • Business Analytics & Modelers (BAM) Club[11] – organization for students interested in business analytics and/or enrolled in the business analytics certificate program to attend workshops, attend recruiter series, and compete in undergraduate analytics competitions

Marketing, management and entrepreneurship organizations[edit]

  • AgToday[16] – organization exploring academic and career opportunities in food industry, created in partnership with agribusiness and food innovation degree program
  • International Business Organization[17] – organization supporting the international business major and minor programs
  • Marketing Club[18] – organization for students interested in marketing to connect and hear from employers about internship and job opportunities
  • Maverick Entrepreneurship Club[19] – organization where students create entrepreneurial-based projects to work on in the local community
  • Professional Sales Organization[20] – organization promoting opportunities for students interested in pursuing a career in sales and market development
  • Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM)[21] – organization for students interested in learning about human resources or management roles

Professional organizations[edit]

  • Council of Student Business Organizations (COSBO)[22][23] – organization that hosts monthly meetings for College of Business faculty, leadership, and RSO officers to discuss joint efforts within the college
  • Student Executive Team (SET)[24] – student-led group that promotes engagement among current and prospective students within the College of Business

Deans[edit]

The current dean of the College of Business is Dr. Brenda Flannery, previously a professor in the Department of Management at Minnesota State University, Mankato.[25] It was announced that Dr. Seung Bach, Interim Dean of the School of Business and Public Administration at California State University, Bakersfield, will succeed Flannery effective July 1, 2023.[26][27]
